The comprehensive aim of the course is to provide knowledge of various qualitative research methods that are used in scientific dissertations, of their application, and of possibilities and limitations connected to the methods.
Course disposition
The course is conducted in the form av lectures and seminars. At two introductory seminars, qualitative methods in general are discussed. The discussions are based on a text book. Subsequently follows five seminars on dissertations where different qualitative research methods have been employed. Some lectures may be given in connection to the seminars. A concluding seminar deals with generation of knowledge.
Before each seminar, the participants shall analyze a dissertation and write a memo.

Litteraturen består av en grundbok om kvalitativ metod och vetenskapsteori, fem doktorsavhandlingar där kvalitativa metoder använts, samt vetenskapliga artiklar på ämnet kvalitativa metoder.
Examination and completion
If the course is discontinued, students may request to be examined during the following two academic years.

- INL1 - Hand in assignment, 4.5 credits, grading scale: P, F
- SEM1 - Seminars, 3.0 credits, grading scale: P, F
The examiner may apply another examination format when re-examining individual students.

Active participation at seminars, 3 credits
Approved written memos, 4,5 credits
Opportunity to complete the requirements via supplementary examination
Opportunity to raise an approved grade via renewed examination
