Content and learning outcomes

Course contents

The course consists of lectures and discussion seminars. In addition, the students will listen to a number of guest lecturers that are taking part of a simultaneous book workshop.

Intended learning outcomes

This PhD course provides participants with an overview of, and engagement with, various theoretical perspectives, debates and research practices that have energized the discussions around urban ecology, urban ecosystems, and urban sustainability during the last 10-15 years.

The course thus aims to provide participants with a familiarity of an extensive and varied literature. But also intellectual capacity to critically unpack the politics of urban ecology, and the abilities and disabilities to create more democratic and sustainable forms of urbanization.

For PhD students in the fields of: Cultural Geography, Political Ecology

Environmental History, Urban Ecology and Systems Ecology, Urban Planning, Urban Design

    Based on recommendation from KTH’s coordinator for disabilities, the examiner will decide how to adapt an examination for students with documented disability.

    The examiner may apply another examination format when re-examining individual students.

    If the course is discontinued, students may request to be examined during the following two academic years.

    Participation in lectures and seminars. Essay.
