Content and learning outcomes

Course contents

The course has two sub-modules of 7.5 credits each. The main supervisor together with the doctoral student defines the dissertation area. Sub-module 1 is a literature study of the scientific literature and sub-module 2 is a dissertation analysis that includes a reading course part where the main supervisor and the doctoral student together select monographs that are suitable for the dissertation area and the selection of literature is done in relation to the doctoral student's prior knowledge. The results are reported partly in written reports, partly in oral presentations.

Intended learning outcomes

After passing the course, the doctoral student should be able to:

  • Present a written and oral literature review of the scientific literature within the doctoral student's dissertation area. The scientific literature should include scientific journals and monographs.

Based on recommendation from KTH’s coordinator for disabilities, the examiner will decide how to adapt an examination for students with documented disability.

The examiner may apply another examination format when re-examining individual students.

If the course is discontinued, students may request to be examined during the following two academic years.
