LS1436 French for Engineers – Intermediate Communicative Competence 7.5 credits

The course offers repetition and strengthening of basic French skills, with a focus on reading and listening comprehension and oral communication in both everyday and professional situations. Topics such as sustainability issues are also included. The course aims to develop a positive and confident attitude towards language learning.

Furthermore, intercultural aspects, including academic culture and work culture, are discussed, preparing students for communication and work in international environments.

On completion of the course, the student should be able to:

1. Engage in conversation in everyday situations and simple work situations

2. Understand and distinguish the main contents in clear standard speech about well-known subjects

3. Identify, and explain in Swedish, facts from simple authentic French texts with

a technical connection

4. Give a short presentation on an engineering-related topic

A1 level of French according to CEFR, for example the course French for Engineers – Essential Communication for Beginners

Based on recommendation from KTH’s coordinator for disabilities, the examiner will decide how to adapt an examination for students with documented disability.

The examiner may apply another examination format when re-examining individual students.

If the course is discontinued, students may request to be examined during the following two academic years.

Based on the recommendation from the KTH office of support to students with disabilities, the examiner has the right to make decisions on adapted forms of examination for students with a documented, permanent disability. For re-examinations, the examiner has the right to allow other forms of examination for individual students.
