The course introduces central theories of leadership and communication. Theory and placement are interleaved through exercises and problem-solving where the student is given opportunity to apply theories in practical exercises and cases. A large part of the work takes place in small groups, in which the students are expected to contribute with and discuss their own and others' experiences connected to the own professional role. The students will also apply their knowledge and skills from the earlier courses of the programme, since elements from these are brought up and are developed during the course. For example, perspectives such as intercultural skills and project work will be connected to, for example, group dynamics and the role of leader to place the leadership in a larger communicative context.

Intended learning outcomes
Communicative leadership is about how leadership is created, shaped, re-negotiated, manifested and carried out in and through the communication between leaders and other members of a group.
The aim of the course is to develop the student's understanding of how one's own and others' communication influences and shapes the leadership in different organisations and contexts.
After passing the course, the students should be able to:
• account for their personal views on leadership based on theories and their own experience
• explain how leadership is constructed through communication internally and externally, as well as describe how leadership and communication interact in different organisational processes
• use different perspectives, grounded in communication theory, to describe and problematise leadership and the practice of leadership in contexts connected to one's own vocational area.
• identify and analyse complex problems connected to leadership situations and suggest communicative solutions
• discuss and problematise the role of leader from the perspective of, for instance, gender, language and culture, as well as reflect on one's own and others' communicative choices in professional contexts.
