Content and learning outcomes

Course contents

The course focuses on the leadership of individuals and groups in various organizational settings, as relevant to engineering students.

At the individual level, the course covers concepts, models, and theories that define and explain teamwork, effective and successful leadership, the difference between management and leadership, personal leadership, power, motivation, and different leadership styles.

At the group level, the course covers concepts, models, and theories that define and explain group leadership, the strengths and weaknesses of group organizations, development processes within groups, how different roles are established in groups, and leadership and organizational challenges in group-based environments.

In the course, students lead a work group and have the opportunity to reflect in a structured and systematic way on their own leadership and on the work group’s development throughout the course.

Intended learning outcomes

Upon successful completion of the course, the student should be able to:

1. Explain the concepts, methods, and tools of leadership

2. Apply the concepts, methods, and tools of leadership by leading and coaching a group.

3. Describe how the leadership of a group can be prepared, implemented, and continuously developed.
