The course strats with a series of seminars related to Product Innovation Management: IPR, Open Innovation, Ideation, Measuring Innovation are examples of topics. In the second part  an academic essay, a paper is written, based on the students own choice of subject in the field. The final part is to collaborate on a project where the students' paper are put together in an anthology.

Course contents *

The course has two important parts- one aiming at the students becoming familiar with the theory of Innovation Management and being capable of reading academic texts on their own, and one aiming at using the theory in relation to practice and to convert the theory into their own texts that are adapted to a certain target group.

Intended learning outcomes *

The student should, on completion of the course, be able to

- critically analyse and evaluate literature in the field

- independently choose literature

- acquaint oneself with some themes within the literature field

- write scientific essays

- present scientific literature to a practically oriented audience and describe it in a suitable way

- use scientific literature to analyse problems in practice

- be active in a dialogue about scientific literature in groups.

Specific prerequisites *

Only students who are enrolled to the Master's (120 credits) programme in Integrated product design, track Innovation management and product development.

Exchange students can read the course, if they have the right prior knowledge, i.e. the courses MF2046 Product innovation and MF2084 Management of research and development, or the equivalent courses.

Recommended prerequisites

Only open for students taking the Product Innovation Management track within the Integrated Product Design Master programme.

Exchange studends can take the course if they have the right prerequisites - course MF2046 Product innovation and MF2051 R6D Strategy and Organisation or comparable courses

Based on recommendation from KTH’s coordinator for disabilities, the examiner will decide how to adapt an examination for students with documented disability.

The examiner may apply another examination format when re-examining individual students.

In the seminar part, grading scale is P/F. P(ass) requires an active participation with good preparation. Another examination part is the writing of an article and individual contributions to a common course book. Article and book are graded with A-F.
