Kursinnehåll
I bredaste bemärkelse ska kursen introducera studenten till användningen av finit elementbaserade simuleringar för produktdesign och konstruktion. Under kursen används traditionella solida modeller för att förstå problemlösningsstrategier och terminologier specifika för finit elementbaserad analys som tillämpas i datorbaserade program. Dessutom kommer idealiseringar av mekaniska strukturer och fysiska komponenter att studeras med hjälp av strålelement och skalelement och jämfört med resultat uppnådda med solida modeller. Idealiseringar av mekaniska system ingår också i de studerade ämnena.
Lärandemål
Efter godkänd kurs ska studenten kunna
- självständigt strukturera, genomföra och dokumentera CAx-uppgifter som innehåller modellering och FE-analys
- tillämpa ett finita elementprogram för att lösa flerdimensionella elastiska problem
- vidareutveckla en produkts geometri och funktion med hänsyn till FE-analys
- identifiera och tillämpa lämplig modelleringsstrategi med hänsyn till FE-analys
- beskriva hur finita elementprogram är uppbyggda och vilka indata som måste ges för att lösa ett praktiskt problem
- jämföra, utvärdera och dokumentera resultat av FE-analys

Föreläsning
- En aktivitet (1 till 2 timmar) med kursinstruktören som introducerar uppgiften för veckan.

- English is the primary language used during the course. All student's admitted to KTH have fulfilled the requirements for English B, which is sufficient to manage the English language used in this course.
- The literature used for exercises on topics associated with FEM is written in English and the software used during the course is written in English.
- Swedish may be used in conversation, presentations and submissions.
- Assignments shall be submitted in English (preferred) or Swedish (optional).
- Google translate has been used in a number of places on the course web to convert what is written in English. The course responsible teacher cannot be held accountable for the Swedish language text produced by the Google translator.

Course Examination
- Canvas (kth.instructure.com) will be used by all students and group projects to administrate any and all course materials. Please Note; you may not use Google Docs or any similar document storage service available outside of the kth.se domain to store materials that will be submitted for grading by the course examiner.
- Reservations are made for changes that may be needed for the appropriate implementation of Canvas at KTH Södertälje.
- Participation in every scheduled activity in the course is required for successful completion of the all the tasks in the course. All scheduled sessions of the course are mandatory in order for the student to acquire necessary direction in the execution of assignments and understand the topics that introduce course content. Exceptions to this must be made in writing by the student to the examiner using a kth.se email.
- Attendance will be taken by the instructor as required and recorded in Canvas. The student attendance record will be considered in the application of bonus points on the final examination and other assignments, in order to improve your assessment level in the course grade.
- Students are expected to demonstrate all the Learning Outcomes previously fulfilled during their coursework at KTH Södertälje, up to and including the current term.
- You will need to execute your own assignments in order to acquire the learning's necessary to solve the tasks assigned during the course and successfully complete the activities presented in the final examination.
- All the results submitted for examination to DEX1, INLA and RED1 shall be created using a KTH licensed version of Creo Parametric and Simulate 5, on a KTH computer accessed using the student's own KTH-ID login.
- Results for DEX1, INLA and RED1 must be submitted correctly to Canvas within the specified time in order for the student's results to be graded. Late submissions will be penalized 15% of the earned score when accepted.
- Results to DEX1, INLA and RED1 may not be submitted directly to the examiner's email.
- The execution, submission and grading of all assignments is individual, regardless of their being executed as a group.
- Every assignment used in the fulfillment of DEX1, INLA and RED1 has its own instruction and grading criteria and will be published on Canvas.
- DEX1 will represent 33.33% of the final course grade, INLA will represent 40% of the final course grade and RED1 will represent 26.67% of the final course grade.
- Failure to complete these course blocks with a passing grade will result in failure in the course.
Digital examination (DEX1)
- This is the "final examination" in the course, which is a set of no more than four (4) individually executed and submitted Assignments and/or Quizzes designed to determine if the student has fulfilled the Learning Objects of the course.
- These tasks are presented to the student in a computer-controlled, timed examination in one of the KTH Södertälje computer labs.
- DEX1 will only be given on two occasions during a study term; once during the stipulated examination period and once during the following re-examination period.
- You must formally register your intended participation using the appropriate service in the KTH "My Pages" function, as is done for all other formal examinations.
Assignments (INLA)
- Five individually executed Assignments and/or Quizzes that are based on Reading Assignments will be used to assess the student learning and acquaint them with a similar task that will appear in DEX1.
- All assignments are required to complete INLA. You will have at least 10 days to complete an assignment, then 5 days late submission period where upon the assignment is closed for submission. If you do not complete an assignment you will recieve a score of zero for that assignment.
- If you have failed to sucessfully complete INLA for a previous year of the course, you will need to complete all of the tasks for this year's course. I.e. you may not re-use a previous year's INLA activities in fulfillment of this year's INLA.
Presentation (RED1)
- A small product development assignment that requires a simulation task will be executed as a project.
- Project groups will be two to three students.
- The task will require the application of the learning's from the course.
- Project results for BP2, BP3, BP4 and BP5 will be presented to the course instructor using Canvas.
- A Technical Presentation for the entire class will be made for BP6.
- A Technical Report will be submitted to clarify the execution and results of the project, will be due before the final examination.
