Course contents
Intended learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to develop the students' understanding of theory and theories in research about higher education. Focus is both on theories that are used in research about higher education and on theorising as process. The course also examines different understanding of theory as concept.
After passing the course, the student should be able to
- give an account of common theories in research about higher education and compare and discuss these critically
- explain aims and functions for theory and concept formation
- identify and give examples of theorising
- develop theory at the simple level and develop the own ability to independently form theory

Specific prerequisites
Doctoral students in Technology and learning, or similar fields where the course can be relevant. Doctoral students in Technology and learning have precedence.

- UPP1 - Written report, 7.5 credits, grading scale: P, F
Based on recommendation from KTH’s coordinator for disabilities, the examiner will decide how to adapt an examination for students with documented disability.
The examiner may apply another examination format when re-examining individual students.
If the course is discontinued, students may request to be examined during the following two academic years.
Other requirements for final grade
To pass the course, actively prepared participation in the seminars is also required.
