This course, based on lectures, study visits, oral presentaitons and discussions aims to provide an insight into prominent interdisciplinary biomedical research at KTH and SJTU, into differences and similarities between Swedish and Chinese research methodology and culture, into how new technologies can tackle future challenges in medical healthcare in Sweden and in China, and to create contacts across the disciplines and nations.

Content and learning outcomes

Course contents *

Introduction of the educational and research systems of KTH and SJTU. Lectures, oral presentations, study visits and discussions within biomedical engineering, biophysics, bioimaging, proteomics, genomics, neuromics, biomdeical simulations and modelling, diagnostics etc. 

Intended learning outcomes *

To get an insight into prominent interdisciplinary biomedical research at KTH and SJTU, into differences and similarities between Swedish and Chinese research methodology and culture, into how new technologies can tackle future challenges in medical healthcare in Sweden and in China, and to create contacts across the disciplines and nations.

Course Disposition

Lectures by 10-15 invited lecturers from KTH and SJTU representing a broad range of prominent interdisciplinary biomedical research at KTH and SJTU. Oral presentations by the participants themselves, study visits and scientific discussions

Literature and preparations

Specific prerequisites *

Admitted to PhD studies at KTH, or last year student at any of the Civ Ing or Masters programs at KTH directed towards interdisciplinary biomedicine in a broad sense.

Recommended prerequisites

At least three years full time studies within an education program at KTH, relevant for  medical and biomedical technology

Equipment

No specific requirements. Study visits at selected research laboratories will be a part of the course.

Literature

Each lecturer of the course will be asked to provide a scientific article or review article reflecting the content of the lecture.
