Presentation and discussion technique with a focus on communication situations in professional contexts (e g conferences, meetings)
Discussions of authentic material to increase the understanding of current themes in technology and natural sciences (e g research ethics, sustainable development, technological breakthroughs)
The aim of the course is to give the student necessary skills for communicative situations in professional contexts, for example, to inform, report and present, to write technical instructions or assist with technical customer support. At the same time, the course gives general skills in text structure, target-group adapted Swedish and English in speech and writing, and language-specific linguistic structures.
After passing the course, the student should be able to:
- identify the differences in style between everyday language and technical communication, and adapt his/her oral and written production to the target group
- write short texts of subject-specific nature
- hold oral presentations of a technical nature using nuanced expression, take active part in discussions, and be able to explain and defend their opinions about subjects relevant to their profession
