KTH Central Makerspace at KTH Library
The KTH Central Makerspace is being built inside KTH Library and opens in spring 2027. It is a place to work with your hands: to prototype an idea, build something for a course, work on a personal project, or just try things out. Whatever you study, and whether or not you have built anything before, you are welcome here.
KTH Central Makerspace will be free to use, and basic materials will be provided at no charge. It is drop in, no booking required. Staff will be on hand to help you get going and use the tools safely.
Hands-on project work at KTH Central Makerspace is not reserved for advanced students or for one discipline. It is open to everyone, from early in your studies, so that theory and practice go hand in hand.
The KTH Central Makerspace is also a place to meet other makers. We are planning workshops, hackathons, presentations, and exhibitions that bring people together and give student work an audience. More details will follow closer to opening.
What you can do at KTH Central Makerspace
- Prototype and improve ideas, from rough cardboard mock-ups to working models.
- Build projects for your courses, your thesis, or yourself.
- Learn new tools and techniques with help close at hand.
- Work across disciplines with students and staff from all over KTH.
- Take part in workshops, hackathons, presentations, and exhibitions.
KTH Central Makerspace has two studios of similar size. Between them they cover a whole project, from a quick paper sketch to a finished, working build.
- Studio B (room 2305) focuses on low-tech prototyping and fabrication.
- Studio C (room 2304) focuses on high-tech making: digital fabrication and electronics, from 3D printing to soldering and test instruments. Studio C also has hand and power tools.
Access to KTH Central Makerspace
KTH Central Makerspace will be available once it opens in spring 2027.
The makerspace will be open to all KTH students and staff. Before your first visit you complete a short onboarding. We have kept it brief so it is easy to get started. It combines an online module with a short in-person session, and covers:
- Safety, including fire safety and evacuation routes.
- How to use the equipment, and the risks to be aware of.
- The social norms and shared protocols that keep the space welcoming and well run.
