KTH Manufacturing Lab is a makerspace at KTH for advanced manufacturing. Here you can develop practical skills in manufacturing, automation, production systems, quality engineering and continuous improvement. There are tools for metalworking, welding, casting, measurement technology and industrial automation. KTH Manufacturing Lab is accessible to all students at KTH, but certain prerequisites are required.

KTH Manufacturing Lab provides students with hands-on experience of modern manufacturing processes, production systems and industrial technologies. The makerspace bridges theory and practice by allowing students to design, manufacture, measure and improve real products and production flows. It supports KTH's ambition to strengthen experiential learning, innovation capability and industry readiness.

KTH Manufacturing Lab focuses on teaching students about:

  • Manufacturing processes and production technologies.
  • Product realization and industrial production.
  • Automation and production systems.
  • Quality assurance and measurement techniques.
  • Lean production and continuous improvement.
  • Digitalization and Industry 4.0 concepts.
  • Problem solving through practical engineering projects.
  • Understanding of the complete industrial value chain.

KTH Manufacturing Lab is used during many different courses, but also accessible by students in their free time.

Get access to KTH Manufacturing Lab

KTH Manufacturing Lab is open to students taking certain courses, mainly in manufacturing, as well as members of the student society Maskineriet, the M Chapter's workshop society.

To join the student society Maskineriet, you must first complete the course MG1000 Mechanical Workshop Practice 3 credits  to get mechanical training. All KTH students can apply for the course, places are allocated by lottery. You can also provide other evidence of mechanical training, if you already have previous knowledge. Contact Maskineriet for more information.
