Om mig

Richard Scharff has studied Wirtschaftsingenieurwesen, study field Raw Materials and Energy, at Clausthal University of Technology, Germany. Since 2010, he is working at the Division of Electric Power Systems at KTH. His research is on a more efficient integration of wind power. And in particular, how this can be achieved by appropriate market rules.

Project: Short-term Hydro Power Planning in Power Systems with Large Amount of Wind Power - System's Perspective

From societies' point of view, it is important to operate the power system in the most efficient way, i.e. using its flexibility if this increases the overall benefit. Here, the electricity market plays a significant role: appropriate market rules can help to operate the system more efficiently. A good market design should resemble physical reality and lead to a more efficient operation of the power system.

This project is funded by Elektra and aims at developing a model with which the performance of an electricity market can be simulated under different market rules. Here, focus is on the Nordic power system where hydro power is one of the dominating sources for electricity generation and where wind power generation is increasing considerably. Of special interest is an efficient balancing of deviations between different updates of wind power forecasts.
