here is  some information for the kick-off meeting in Nynäshamn next week (24-25 Aug). 

The meeting will be located at Nynäsgården Hotell & Konferens, Telefon +46 (0) 8 520 205 90,Telegrafgatan 41, SE 149 41 Nynäshamn,www.nynasgarden.se

Bus will leave from KTH (Lindstedtsv 3) at 10.45 on Aug 24. If you will not take the bus, but arrange your own transport, please let me know a.s.a.p. The bus will return to KTH on August 25 around 14.00. 

If you would like vegetarian food or have other dietary requests, please let me know a.s.a.p.

Don't forget to prepare a brief non-mathematical blackboard presentation of your research area. The presentation will be held for a small group of fellow PhD students (supervisors will present separately for other supervisors). Your presentation can be about the general area of your research or more specific about your own research problem.

13.00-14.30 Research area descriptions

Objective: cocktail knowledge of research areas in applied mathematics. 
Task: explain your area of research in 10-15 min with two or three pictures. Math-formulas are banned. (you need to prepare this!)
Format: Presentations in small groups (PhD students/supervisors separate).

14.30-15.15 Jonathan Wendin, (JP Morgan Chase, PhD in Mathematics from ETH, Zurich) talks about how skills and abilities acquired during his PhD studies have been useful in his post-PhD career.

15.15-15.45 Coffee

15.45 - 16.30 Henrik Hult, (KTH) talks about how skills and abilities acquired during his PhD studies have been useful in his post-PhD career.

16.30-17.15 Group discussions (PhD student groups, and supervisor groups).

17.15-18.15 Group presentations and main discussion - identify abilities that can be achieved and acquired within the PhD program - what can be added to the new program?

19.00  Wine tasting

19.45 Dinner

August 25:

9.00-9.30 Some proposed activities within the PhD program. 

9.30-10.30 Group discussions - how to design and get the most out of the activities
