Course contents *

The course focusses on aspects of design for learning, multi-modal representations of knowledge, and forms of examination in arts and design in relation to contemporary challenges in higher education. Different aspects on supervision, individually and in groups (both in terms of content and as regards to interpersonal relationships) and e.g. methods for studio-based education are discussed and tried out.

The course is composed of 1) lectures and seminars that raise points in literature as well as aspects on university regulations and policies; 2) arts- and design oriented laborations that focus on projects tied into the student's own teaching practice.

Intended learning outcomes *

On completion of the course, the participant should be able to:

– design and implement a variety of teaching methods in relation to his/her own teaching and supervision

– formulate learning outcomes targeted for arts and design education and relate these to suitable teaching activities, criteria for grading, and forms of examination

– present and critically discuss the core elements of research in university teaching and learning

To be eligible for the course, students must have completed a masters’ degree or have an equivalent level of education in technology, art or design (such as architecture, planning, civil engineering, design, arts and crafts, or fine arts) or affiliated subjects within the humanities and social sciences.

Based on recommendation from KTH’s coordinator for disabilities, the examiner will decide how to adapt an examination for students with documented disability.

Other requirements for final grade *

The course is examined in two parts:

- Participation in seminars, including group and/or individual assignments (2,5 credits).

- Hand-in of final assignment that shows the student's ability to plan, implement and (as informed by theory) crictically reflect on a course module in his/her own teaching practice (2,5 credits).

The course is mandatory for research candidates within the Art, Technology and Design programme.
