  • 89-95:  M.Sc. in Engineering Physics at Royal institute of Technology (KTH) with 180+26=206 credits (with new system 308.5 credits). Optics and solid state physics as majors. Best, or among top three, student(s) on numerous pan-KTH courses and several over-grades (e.g. a grade 6 in Calculus, grade 5.5 in Electromagnetic Theory, and grade 5.5 in Strength of materials and statistical mechanics, etc.).

    Stockholm, Ericsson Research. (Currently on a study leave).
  • 97-99:  Senior research engineer. Located at and cooperated with Center for Wireless Communication (today named Institute for Infocom Research) in Singapore for Ericsson Research. Developed a WATM OFDM testbed.
  • 95-96:  Trainee program - 15 months, Sweden, Australia (6 months), Ericsson. (Granted one of the trainee positions out of the 16 available in competition with more than 300 applicants with sufficient university qualifications)
  • 99-01:  Senior research engineer, Project leader, Stockholm, Ericsson Research.
  • 96-97:  Research engineer, Stockholm, GSM system department Ericsson.

 

C. Other merits of relevance

  • 11-       Granted a Doctoral Program of Excellence position at KTH. (Out of 33 highly qualified nominated applicants, 7 candidates were granted).
  • 09:       Invited visiting researcher, as Guest Scholar, at Harvard University, in Prof. Vahid Tarokh’s group during Jan.-Jul. 2009. (Prof. Tarokh is perhaps best known for his seminal work on space time codes)
  • 08:       Received a Strategic Mobility 2008 research grant for “Advanced Cooperation Techniques in Wireless Networks”  from Swedish Research Foundation.
  • 08:       Awarded the Marcus Wallenberg Foundation scholarship.
  • 04:       Inventor of the year 2004, Ericsson telecommunication globally.

Motivation: “Peter has been the key inventor within Ericsson Research when securing technology leadership in 4G and "3G evolution" radio access. Patents related to various WLAN standards (802.11, 802.16 etc) are also important contributions from Peter in Ericsson’s patent portfolio. These technology areas are essential to ensure a leading position long term on the patent licensing market. In addition to being a key inventor, Peter is with his creativity and innovation a role model for new inventors and he is leading regular meetings within the Wireless Access Network research area to find new ideas and drive patenting.”

RF, Radio and Audio electric circuit design was The hobby during my teens, wherein I developed an extensive practical knowledge.

  • Academic interaction: PhD Grading committee member for Jimmy Grönkvist, Licentiate opponent - Magnus Lindström, Second advisor for PhD student, M.Sc. main advisor for several students. Academic contacts with the world leading researchers in wireless communication.
  • Initiated and handled a range of forward looking projects within Ericsson Research.

 

D. Innovation achievements

  • 04:     The Ericsson Inventor of the year 2004 (See motivation in section C)
  • 97-09: 96 patent applications filed (Sole/main inventor for 80 of those).
  • First to invent a multitude of fundamental communication schemes. Some examples are:
    • 04: Network coded ARQ (Unicast- and 06: throughput optimal multicast-ARQ)
    • 04: Network coded ad hoc networking (Later known as COPE)
    • 04: Network coded bidirectional relaying /NC combining / NC-Lattice En-/Decoding
    • 03/04: LoS-MIMO (Linear, Square, Rectangular, Clustered, etc)
    • 03: Centralized/Distributed//Iterative/Compressed/RRM CoMP (Network-MIMO)
    • 99: Relaying with IC of a priori known signals (Later known as Physical layer or Analogue network coding)
    • 99: Opportunistic routing (Later mostly known through ExOR)
    • 98: Cyclic delay diversity (99: CDD-MIMO)
  • 04-10: Ericsson patent priority board member.
  •           Several patents are known to be items for licensing to other companies.
    • For example, in the Case 6:10-cv-00473-LED-KFG 6, the granted patent US 424,625 “Method and Apparatus for Discarding Packets in a Data Network Having Automatic Repeat Request” [91] was (with two other patents) valued to $9,500,000 in damages and $0.50 per unit royalty.
  •           Several principal patents exist in, not just one, but in multiple standards.

    • Suggested opportunistic routing for multi access networks, which then became one of the major outcomes form Ambient Networks.
  • 03:     Wireless World Initiative New Radio (WINNER): EU
    • Not a project member, but was active during the planning phase. Suggested and wrote WINNER plan parts on 2-hop relaying and cooperative relaying. Also have one major contribution in from the Winner project and report, such as “Network coded bi-directional relaying”.
  • 02-05: Affordable Wireless Services & Infrastructure program (AWSI): SSF.
    • Low Cost Infrastructure systems (LCI) project. Introduced 2-hop relaying, cooperative relaying, virtual antenna arrays, and opportunistic routing.
  • 01-02: Mobile IP based Network Developments (MIND): EU
    • Not a meeting attendee per se, but the architect for the Ericsson contribution.
