About me

You can call me Zheheng or Johan—they sound similar, so either works! I’ve been researching at KTH Royal Institute of Technology since September 2023, focusing on electromagnetic waves and light-matter interactions, supervised by Prof. Ilya Sychugov and Prof. Lars Berglund.

My core research involves numerical electromagnetic wave simulation, designing diffractive optical elements and metasurfaces using COMSOL and Zemax. I also apply novel algorithms—like topology optimization, machine learning (NN, GAN, etc.), and Monte-Carlo—to design semitransparent AR and photovoltaic photonic devices. Experimentally, I use advanced microscopy, including single-dot microscopy, AFM, and time-resolved techniques, to investigate luminescent phenomena such as quantum dots and metal clusters.

Outside of research, I enjoy photography and 3D simulation design. I run an online channel with over 100 free tutorials on scientific design using Blender. I’m especially keen on using its Geometry Nodes for visualizing complex physics and algorithms. Feel free to reach out if you’d like to discuss any of these topics!
