About me
Zheheng “Johan” Song is a PhD student in photonics at KTH Royal Institute of Technology, with a background in semiconductor engineering, nanofabrication, and optical simulation. He works with Prof.Ilya Sychugov and Prof.Lars Berglund on light–matter interaction, transparent waveguiding photonic devices, and diffractive optical elements.
His research combines numerical electromagnetic simulation, optical system design, and algorithm-driven optimization, using tools and methods such as COMSOL, Zemax, Monte Carlo simulation, and Bayesian optimization. He is particularly interested in metagratings, waveguide coupling, light management, and energy-harvesting photonic structures.
Experimentally, he investigates the photoluminescent properties of quantum materials using micro-photoluminescence, time-resolved streak camera measurements, and other advanced optical microscopy techniques.
