Concerning question 3. Isn't it quite obvious that a problem and report fit for a bachelor thesis would have a long way to go to be fit for a master's thesis? We're comparing 15 ECTS to 30 and advanced level knowledge.

This is a valid argument if your objective is only to prove that a bachelor thesis is not at the same level as a master's thesis.

Your assignment here is to "give some suggestions about how it might have been carried out and reported with the requirements of a Masters' thesis".

The thing is no matter how a bachelor's thesis is carried out or reported, a bachelor's thesis has a problem and hypothesis which is on undergraduate level. A master's thesis needs to be graduate level where the student shows insight in where current research is and finds a relevant problem which advances academia with a nail, at least this is what is widely expected from a master's thesis. At bachelor level the requirements for the problem is lower.

So your first suggestions for improvement concern the problem statement and the hypothesis. This seems to be a good starting point!

Even with a set font size of 10pt, 3 pages typeset with LaTeX is very different from 3 pages written in Microsoft Word. Why isn't the length of the essay specified as word count? 

In order to summarize the bachelor thesis, are we expected to talk about he underlying theory as well, or should we focus on the computer science aspect ? 
I'm working on the "A 19-Tone Scale Synthesizer" paper, and I don't understand a single thing about the underlying music theory. Is that a problem ?

Since half of the bachelor thesis is about music theory, and since I have zero knowledge in music theory, I would like to have an answer regarding my previous question before I start writing the essay. Should I solely focus on the computer science aspect, or should I also summarize the other half that I simply don't understand ?

@Nedo: Yes, this is definiely an option. But perhaps the deadline for peer review should be later, say January 9th?

I would like to submit my essay for peer review too, but the current deadline seems a bit hard to achieve. I think it would indeed be a good idea to have the submission deadline for peer review in the beginning of January.

The hand in was supposed to have the deadline at 22:00 but it seems that the deadline was actually at 21:00 and I was unable to upload the essay. Did anyone else face this issue ?

Hmm, I can see hand-ins from 17 and 18 minutes ago so it does not seem to be a problem for everyone. The time is 22:13 now.

Regarding the first point(summary), "... an easily readable summary of the THESIS intended". Is this my own thesis, or is it the thesis from the project we are writing about?

We refer to your work as essay, and the Bachelor’s Thesis you are working with as thesis.

I'm getting a permission error when I try to upload my essay to KTH Social.

The requirement on this page for section three is to give "some suggestions".  However, one of the questions in peergrade is: "Have all seven requirements been checked (omit oral part)?"

Are we required to check all seven requirements?

Would also be great if we could get access to the questions from the peergrading even if one didn't decide to turn in for peergrade that way you can still reflect over your own essay if it fulfills the questions.

The hand in system does not allow you to remove files, but if you number your submissions (essy1, essay2, essay3) we will look at the last one (essay3).

@Chaya: This peer review question is intended to force the peer reviewer to check the Masters' thesis requirements in order to be able to give good feedback. You are not required to comment on all seven requirements in your essay.

Is it OK to have a fifth page with references?

Yes.

It doesn't say anything about references in the description. Should one have references in the essay or is it okay to obmit them if only citing material from the course?

I apologize if this has been answered before, I was not able to find the answer on the course page. How is the final grade calculated? Is it the mean of HEM3 and TEN1?

Yes, the final grade is the mean of HEM3 and TEN1.

I am unable to find the correct answers to homework 2. It's a bit difficult to peer review without knowing for sure what the correct answer is. They're not here and I can't find any solutions on Peergrade.io either.

After the seminar you should be confident enough to peer review the homework. If you have specific questions please ask one of the teachers after the seminar or at a lecture. Or visit us, we all have our offices in the D building.

What are we suppose to do in homework 4? On the one hand it says "how would you apply the scientific method in the following cases?" but on the other hand all the assignments have a separate question that should be answered. Do you want us to answer the questions with concrete answers, or just describe how we would go about finding a scientific answer to the questions? Me and my friends are all clueless right now....

We want you to answer all the separate questions with a concrete answer! But a simple Yes/No is not enough, you must "Describe the methods you would use in each of the cases and motivate all your answers."

I got an email for Homework 4 but haven't got an email for homework 5 yet. 

Yes, the same for me. I got notifications when the hand-ins opened for homework 1-4, but not for homework 5.

In homework 6 the template has a field called "context". Are we supposed to read several other articles of the area to be able to fill in that field, or should we leave it blank?

I have a question about homework 7. Are we supposed to program a, for example, Java program that creates a problem instance , test a strategy a couple of times, get some results from it which we can base our analysis? If so, do we also have to append the code or just the results from it?

Yes, this is exactly what you should do. We are also interested in your code as well as the results, so please append both to your homework.

I do not understand the third question on homework 7. What is meant by significance by 95% or 99%? 

There is a chapter on statistical hypothesis testing in your textbook from the Statistics course. Johan will also give you a recap in the lecture on Wednesday.

Calculating whether the results are significant wrt some level is one thing, but what I don't understand is what we're supposed to simulate? Are we supposed to assume some distribution as H0 and just simulate it?

About peer-reviewing homework 7, the first question says "Has a winning strategy been found?". As far as I understood the question there is nothing that says we acutally had to find a winning strategy, only that we programmed a strategy and tested it. 

So was part of the assignment to find a winning strategy or not?

You are right, there is certainly nothing that says that you have to find a winning strategy! When you grade this there is a "Text response", instead of a simple yes/no, so you can give your opinion on any winning strategy you are presented with.

I am confused about the Homework 8. Will we really attend a panel in the next seminar? Or will we pretend that we are attending to a panel, and prepare a questionnaire to be asked during the panel?

You will actually participate in a panel next seminar! You will randomly be assigned a role as moderator or panel member. Just the seminar group, so you do not need to be nervous.

In seminar 9, some yes/no questions could have different answers within each ethical theory. How are we supposed to address this? (Say both standpoints, or pick only one)

One is sufficient, you do not need to argue for both standpoints. 

So if I get this correctly:
P: At least one excerpt contains no arguments

P: You must identify premises and conclusion for all arguments

C: You don't have to write down premises and conclusion for all excerpts (with no arguments)?

I'm missing a grade on one of the homework assignments. Does it mean I have to hand it in again?

I missed homework 2 and its peer review. I submit my late hand in on peergrade. I also got an invitation for "Late peer grading", but the link goes to the main page of peergrade where I can see all of my previouse homeworks. I expected to see a page for late hand in reviews. What should I do now? Is that a bug or should I peer review the second homework that I had missed?

I have not received a mail from Peergrade.io and there is nothing turning up on the page where I can upload the old homework... But a lot of the Peergrade.io mails disappear so maybe I have missed it... most mail servers seem to be treating it as spam.. :(

Yes, I'm aware of that, hence my specifically asking about the 2016-slides. The slides that are up now are from 2015, if the file name is correct, and there's no way of knowing whether the 2016-slides are the same as last year - are they? New slides were uploaded for every previous lecture, so it's kind of hard to know whether it'd be an idea to wait around longer. Thank you for the quick reply!

They are very similar to the slides that Johan showed at the lecture this morning (if Johan has made changes I did not spot them).
