Dear all,

Thank you for choosing the course theoretical nuclear physics SH2011. I hope you are aware that we are going to have the first meeting tomorrow between 13:15-15:00.

I hope you all will be able to come.

In the first and second meetings this week we are going to discuss the basic properties of the atomic nuclei and basics of nuclear theory.  And then we will go through the Quantum mechanics concepts which are needed for the course.

The schedules are as follows:

1) Basic knowledge on nuclear physics: Nomenclature, units, nuclear size, binding energy, your knowledge on nuclear models

2)Basic quantum mechanics: Hermitian operators. Physical meaning of the eigenvectors and eigenvalues of Hermitian operators. Rep- resentations and their use. Unitary Operator: symmetries and conservation laws. Sum of angular mo- menta. 3j, 6j and 9j symbols.

3)One particle Hamiltonian and Gamow states

4) The nuclear shell model.

Please be prepared for above discussions.

In the following link, you will find a pdf file named Lecture2015.pdf which is the lecture note we are going to use and the presentations we are going to discuss tomorrow and on Thursday.

It is highly appreciated if you could read the first two chapters and the first part of the third chapter in advance.

For your information, we will have 12 meetings in total and all will be in the KTH nuclear physics seminar room C3:3031 at the third floor of the AlbaNova University center. We are close to the AlbaNova Kanteen.

Best regards,

Chong
