The aims of the course are:

to give the student incite into the procedure for writing application for funding;

to give the student knowledge of the research funding organizations and the type of research they fund;

to understand the requirements of an application, to show the need of research, method for which the study will be carried out, expected results;

prepare the student for a career in academia.

The course consists of lectures*, exercises in evaluating previous applications both which have and which haven't received funding; discussion of what makes an application attractive and likely to receive funding.

The course consists of writing an application for funding, together with the students adviser.

The course consists of evaluation of the outcome of the application – if the application was successful or not successful.

Course contents *

Course Disposition

The course examination requies documentation of the work done in the course, and the time spent completing the course work. The course is worth 1.5 ECTS thus this should require at least 40 hours of work. The students are to submit a written evaluation of the previous applications for funding with a discussion about the quality of the application. They are to submit a copy of the application they have helped write and a discussion about the outcome of the application, if funding was granted or not - what was the main reasons.

Examiners of the course is the director and co director of the Dr program in Land and Water Resources Engineering.
