“Every choice you make makes you”. There are plenty of choices we have with respect to choosing our study destination. Every choice comes with its unique advantages and disadvantages. We try to understand the pro and cons of the choice in front of us and finally decide on what seems to be the perfect fit for us. In this blog post, I write about the reasons I chose KTH among the other options that lay on the table.
Research Opportunities on Campus
I main reason for me to choose KTH is that I found KTH Innovation to be an attractive opportunity. KTH Innovation acts as an incubation centre for students and researchers at KTH to transform their ideas into impact. I wanted to explore and develop my entrepreneurial personality and KTH Innovation seemed like a perfect platform for me to experience life as an entrepreneur while pursuing the master’s programme. You can read about my experience at KTH innovation here.
Location of companies
Sweden is the home of the most innovative global companies – Ikea, Volvo, Spotify, H&M, to name a few. Most of these companies are clustered around Stockholm making it easier for students to approach and interact with these companies. During my master’s program, I had the opportunity to conduct projects with Xylem, SCA, Husqvarna Construction.
Alignment of master’s programme with career aspiration
The master’s programme in Product development and Innovation management was a unique course and I found it to be a perfect blend of engineering as well and management. Most of the alumni also worked in roles that matched my interests as well. I also found that the courses had major elements which required working with industries. This meant that I gain contemporary knowledge about innovation concepts.
Since I see myself working in Sweden after graduating, I wanted to make sure Sweden offers the right balance of career and personal life. You can see people leaving the workplace at 3:30 pm to spend time at the gym, picking up their kids. There is also a concept of mandatory leaves unheard from the part of the world where I come from.
Yes! Access to travelling was one of my major criteria while choosing my study destination. I wanted to be in a place where I can find mountains, beaches, woods along with some historic cities and towns and Sweden does offer them. You can experience splendid mountains in Northern Sweden and if you are lucky also see the northern lights. You can also find affordable flights that connect to other cities in Europe such as Prague, Vienna.
These are my reasons for choosing KTH. You can also read Maria’s blog about her reasons to come to KTH. I agree with her in almost all her points, especially regarding the closeness of nature to the city.
