Turbulence is ubiquitous in the universe, which motivates the more than centenary unsuccessful efforts to understand its basic mechanisms. A brief overview of the main concepts behind the classical (Navier-Stokes and MHD) turbulence will be given, and the standard tools for the statistical analysis of the turbulent fluctuations will be reviewed and put in context.
