Cyberoperations, Complex Systems and Collateral Damage

Several of the most serious large-scale cyber incidents affecting critical infrastructure to date have been the result of collateral damage, incontrollable malware proliferation and/or indirect effects of malware deployment.

This postdoctoral project, which is situated within the field of security studies/International Relations, utilizes socio-technical perspectives and in-depth interviews with experts from numerous countries to explore and theorize vulnerability dynamics in complex socio-technical systems. The project aims to enhance our understanding of collateral damage, unintended or unexpected consequences of offensive cyber operations, and their implications in the context of international relations.
