Unite! – A university of the future

Imagine university studies where you are affiliated to, not one, but up to nine top technical universities in Europe during your study period. Imagine that moving among these universities is a seamless process where administrative procedures, student support structure and a virtual campus experience are offered jointly. Imagine teaching methods on the forefront and that learning at least one new European language and getting deeper insight into different European cultures are part of the curriculum.

Or imagine, as a PhD student, that you on top of the above, have access to research facilities, and innovation and entrepreneurship structures in some of the most innovative regions in Europe.

The European Universities vision

This is a vision that will come true through Unite! and the European Universities Initiative. European Universities are transnational alliances promoting European values, and working to revolutionise the quality and competitiveness of European higher education. Through the initiative, the European Commission is making a key contribution to building the universities of the future.

Unite! – University Network for Innovation, Technology and Engineering – is one of these alliances, consisting of

The aim is to set a new model for a European university through joint educational programmes, virtual and physical mobility, innovative pedagogic methods, a shared research platform, shared support services and harmonized governance models.

Unite! was also granted additional funding July 2020 to December 2023 through EU Horizon 2020. In this project Unite! developed, in synergy with its educational dimension, an integrated, shared and long-term research and innovation (R&I) strategy.

Engaging students and staff

Unite! started with a pilot phase until Ocober 2022. The alliance then recieved additional funding for another four years through Erasmus+. The funding from Horizon 2020 continued until the end of 2023. A number of activities have been defined, aimed at building a foundation to this future university alliance. Building Unite! is a case of long term commitment, but activities for students and staff are continuously developed and made available.
