The Road Engineering Competence Centre (KCV) aims to ensure a long-term supply of knowledge in road engineering by developing expertise and acquiring knowledge to ensure the possibility of building a robust infrastructure and road management both now and in the future. The long-term funding from the Swedish Transport Administration (see below) ensures the possibilities for investments in recruitment and equipment required for research and long-term knowledge provision and knowledge building in Sweden.

The competence centre's research is structured around calls based on one or more of the following research areas:

  • Health, environmental and climate impacts
  • Condition assessment and degradation modelling
  • Sustainable and resource-efficient roads
  • Digitalisation, automation and electrification for a modern road infrastructure
