Industrial Ecology Group @SEED

Industrial Ecology Group @ SEED

The Industrial Ecology (IE) Group at SEED, KTH, brings together researchers advancing systems-based approaches to sustainability. IE is an interdisciplinary field focused on understanding and optimizing material and energy flows in industrial and socio-economic systems to reduce environmental impacts and support circular resource use.

KTH has played a key role in shaping the field, hosting the third ISIE conference in 2005 and maintaining strong international engagement ever since. At SEED, the IE Group serves as a platform for collaborative research, peer support, and exchange on topics such as life cycle assessment, material flow analysis, urban metabolism, sustainable consumption, and environmental systems analysis.

Activities include monthly meetings, research presentations, peer-review sessions, and joint work on funding proposals and publications. The group also contributes to education at master’s and PhD levels and engages in networks that connect academia, policy, and practice for a more sustainable future.
