Pre-sessional English for master's students is an optional course that aims to prepare you for master's studies at KTH. The course will help you to develop the academic language and skills you need for successful study, as well as preparing you for a new academic environment.
Welcome to the course
The KTH Pre-sessional English course for master's students gives you the best preparations for your studies at KTH. You will improve your scientific communications skills in English, and feel more prepared for life at university.
The KTH Pre-sessional course helps you:
Develop your scientific communication skills in English. You will have the chance to practise your presentation skills, work in seminars and on group projects, and learn how to research, structure and write scientific reports. You will learn how to refine your English language use for maximum clarity and effect. You will receive personalised feedback on your written and oral work at every stage of the course.
Understand the conventions of scientific communication. You will develop your understanding of scientific conventions connected to scientific texts, academic language use and referencing.
Adapt to a new academic culture. You will learn about how people teach and learn at KTH, and get used to important university systems and processes before you start your master's studies. You will also explore important issues at KTH, such as sustainability.
Develop good practice around AI writing technologies. You will learn how to approach tools such as Generative AI critically and ethically.
Get to know people from different backgrounds. There will be opportunities to study and socialise together, and to start to make connections and forge friendships as you settle into Stockholm, Sweden and KTH.

The Pre-sessional English for master's students takes place on main campus and all the study material will be made available on Canvas, KTH’s learning management system. Course participants therefore need to be in Sweden and in possession of a KTH IT account in order to participate in the pre-sessional course.
Participation is free of charge. The participants will not receive academic credits after completing the course.
Eligible students
Priority is given to degree-seeking fee-paying students, scholarship holders, and students participating in a study abroad programme. Other international students commencing their master's studies at KTH autumn 2026 are welcome subject to vacancies.
