Om mig

Graduated in Physics from the University of Seville, Spain (1988), with a master's thesis completed in 1989 and a doctorate awarded in December 1991 (Extraordinary Doctorate Award, Sciences branch, University of Seville). He held a doctoral scholarship from 1989 to 1992. In 1992, he obtained a position as Assistant Professor in the Department of Applied Physics at the University of Seville (US), where he was promoted to Associate Professor in 1997 and to Full Professor in 2010. Currenty he is also Affiliate Professor at KTH.

Between 1992 and 2004, he completed four research stays at US universities, collaborating primarily with Prof. David R. Jackson of the University of Houston, TX. Since September 1988, he has been a member of the Microwave Group of the University of Seville where he started working on computational electromagnetics —specifically, the integral equation method applied to planar structures at microwave frequencies— as well as on fundamental theoretical aspects of electromagnetism, including the derivation of Green's functions for such structures and the analysis of the various modes that can exist in them (propagating, evanescent, complex, leaky, etc.). More recently, he has worked on the modeling of periodic structures and metamaterials, contributing to the development of analytical equivalent circuits to characterize these structures and explain exotic phenomena such as extraordinary transmission and electromagnetically induced transparency. In 2019, he began a fruitful collaboration with Prof. Oscar Quevedo-Teruel (Full Professor at KTH) focused on the application of ray-tracing and physical optics to the study of geodesic lenses, dome antennas, and other beamforming radiating elements.

He has published 6 book chapters and more than 150 papers in international journal. Since 2014, he has been an IEEE Fellow, proposed by the IEEE Microwave Theory and Techniques Society for "Contributions to the theory and computation of wave propagation in microwave planar structures." He is also a member of the IEEE MTT-S Technical Committee TC-1 (Field and Computational EM) and currently serves as a Topic Editor for the IEEE Journal of Microwaves.
