Gisele Helena Barboni Miranda

I am an assistant professor in machine learning for computational biology at KTH Royal Institute of Technology and a SciLifeLab fellow. I am also a member of the BioImage Informatics Facilityand the Imaging Programof the Chan-Zuckerberg Initiative. In 2019, I obtained a joint Ph.D. degree in Computer Science and Applied Mathematics from the University of São Paulo, Brazil, and in Applied Biological Sciences from Ghent University, Belgium.

Research

My research explores how AI can help us understand how cells organize, interact, and shape tissue function. We develop generative AI and multimodal learning methods that integrate single-cell, spatial, imaging, and omics data to uncover relationships between cellular identity, state, function, and spatial context. Our goal is to reveal how cellular networks and tissue microenvironments are organized and how they change across biological conditions and disease states.

My group is based at SciLifeLab Campus Solna, one of Europe’s leading centers for life science research. We are affiliated with the Department of Computational Science and Technology at KTH and collaborate closely with researchers across the SciLifeLab ecosystem. Our work is highly interdisciplinary and involves partnerships with academic and clinical collaborators in Sweden and abroad.
