About me
Dr. Jou-Yi Shih is a Researcher within the Soil and Rock Mechanics group at KTH, specializing in geodynamics. With a PhD from the University of Southampton, she brings a wealth of expertise cultivated at the UK’s three premier railway research hubs: theInstitute of Sound and Vibration Research (ISVR), theInstitute of Railway Research (IRR), and theBirmingham Centre for Railway Research and Education (BCRRE).
Her work seamlessly integrates theoretical depth with practical application. Dr. Shih possessesextensive experience in vibration measurement, with a particular focus on the performance and health of critical railway infrastructure. Her field expertise spans from dynamic site measurements of bridges and track systems to the highly specialized analysis ofSwitches & Crossings (S&C).
By leveraging advanced numerical tools—includingFinite Element Analysis (FEA) andMulti-body Simulation (MBS)—and her proficiency in programming (Fortran, Python, Matlab), she bridges the gap between lab-based material mechanics and real-world infrastructure behavior. Having been a key contributor to numerous European projects, Dr. Shih maintains a robust international network across both academia and the rail industry, dedicated to enhancing the resilience of modern transport networks.
