Om mig
Dr. Mir Riyanul Islam is a Postdoctoral Researcher in TECoSA Center at KTH Royal Institute of Technology. His research interests concentrate on Artificial Intelligence (AI), with a strong emphasis on Explainable AI (XAI). He focuses on developing techniques that enhance the transparency and interpretability of complex AI models, particularly in safety-critical domains such as air traffic management and road safety.
Dr. Islam earned his Ph.D. in Computer Science from Mälardalen University (MDU), where his dissertation explored explainability in AI-based decision support systems. Followed by the Ph.D., he worked at MDU as a Postdoctoral Researcher. He previously completed his M.Sc. and B.Sc. in Computer Science and Engineering at the American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB). Before starting his doctoral studies, he served as a Lecturer in the Department of Computer Science at AIUB, where he taught foundational courses in programming, algorithms, artificial intelligence, and expert systems.
His research contributions span several prominent European projects, including xApp, TRUSTY, and ARTIMATION, which aim to develop transparent and trustworthy AI technologies for industrial and air traffic control applications. He has also contributed to projects like BRAINSAFEDRIVE, SimuSafe and FitDrive, which focused on understanding driver behaviour and enhancing road safety through AI-driven analysis of mental workload and behavioural data.
Dr. Islam has co-authored multiple peer-reviewed publications, including systematic reviews and surveys on Explainable AI techniques across domains. His work bridges theoretical advancements in machine learning with practical applications, contributing to the broader goal of building reliable, human-centred and trustworthy AI systems. He maintains an active presence on bibliometric sites and continues to collaborate with international researchers on advancing the field of XAI.
