About me

Kyle Mudge is a mechanical and biomedical engineer with a background in research and development of implantable medical devices. He is currently a PhD student in the Intelligent Heart Technology Lab, supervised by Professor Seraina Dual.

Kyle pursued his undergraduate education in the United States, earning a B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering and B.Sc. in Biomedical Engineering at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI). He completed his M.Sc. in Biomedical Engineering at Imperial College London and the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH Zurich), specialising in the design of cardiovascular implants. His research interests occupy the intersection of mechanical design and cardiology, often involving soft robotic systems to mimic or support the cardiovascular system. He has previously conducted research at WPI, Imperial College, and ETH Zurich, in addition to industrial engineering experience in Research and Development at Sports Engineering Inc., Boston Scientific, and Scandinavian Real Heart.

Kyle's doctoral research focuses on understanding and improving circulation in heart failure patients. His primary research project, Aortic Assist, aims to improve the efficacy of clinical counterpulsation therapy by investigating cardiovascular autoregulatory mechanisms and developing novel soft actuators to deliver counterpulsation therapy with improved biocompatibility.
