Bioconversion Group

Group Photo

Research Area

The aim of the Bioconversion group is to develop carbon neutral waste teatment technologies and phosphorus mining from eutrophicated water environments while producing valuable products, using less energy. Research lines:

1) Biomethane, carboxylic acid and bioplastic production from different waste streams and model substrates in lab and pilot scale bioreactors

2) Developing bioengineering approach for phosphorus recovery from the Baltic Sea

3) Developing synthetic community and microbial ecology of mixed culture for feedstock production

In additon to these research lines, Bioconversion group led sewage monitoring project in Stockholm and Malmö as a part of SEEC. The group is still developing methods for pathogens and antimicrobial resistance genes.
