The early stages of the design and construction processes are studied in the course: how to analyse needs and market, find and develop the building site, manage legal conditions and financing, define and design the actual building, purchase the production, marketing and find customers/investors. The importance of architectural concepts as value-building factors in the early stages of this process is given special attention.
The intricate and strategic relationships between the design and the construction stages are studied with focus on the project management mission and the project manager´s possibilities to balance architecture, technology and economy.
The course aims to provide the students with insights in the value adding activities in all phases of a building project and how those can be realized in the construction phase. After finishing the course the students should be prepared to take part and manage the conceptual development of a project, to understand the role of architectural concepts and to work creatively with architects and - as a project manager - organize and manage construction processes from client briefs and design to production and maintenance.
