Introduction

The course explores the project management task of balancing architecture, technology, economy and sustainable development throughout construction projects, with a focus on the early phases (project idea, initiation and planning).

The course will highlight the construction project within its context of other projects, as a part of a city, and as a neighbourhood. The course will take a client´s perspective, and in particular focus on how the client´s project manager can add value to the project in early stages.

 Issues such as design, value, strategy, decision making and sustainable development will be discussed in the course.

 The course language is English. All information and communication is via Canvas.

Aim

The aim of the course is to provide knowledge about project development, concept and design in architecture and construction. After completing the course, the student should be able to:

  1. Describe concept and design as value creation activity in architecture and construction.
  2. Explain architectural concepts and give examples of approaches.
  3. Describe and use project management related concepts and tools in relation to concept development.
  4. Explain how different interests can be balanced to support a more sustainable built environment.
  5. Relate to and apply previous knowledge in the area.
