Study visit 2015

The first intended learning outcome of DD2300 is "compare different workplaces and professions relevant to computer scientists". In order to make you fulfill this learning outcome you will visit an IT company each year in the course and reflect on the visit in the next seminar. The study visits 2015 will take place between November 5 and December 3, always on Thursdays after 15.00.

Every student should sign up to one study visit. The lists where you sign up are posted on the board just outside Viggo's office on level 5 in the D building (room 4542, at the end of the corridor, close to Spelhallen).

November 2 at 15.00 is the last day for signing up to the study visit.

The contact person (#1 in the list) will be contacted by Björn Thuresson with the details around the visit.

Prepare two questions to the company before the visit!
The topic of the prosamm seminar in December (15 or 17) will be the study visit.

Exchange students

If you are on exchange studies during period 2 you should try to organize your own study visit in the city where you study. You should visit an IT company or IT research group at the university, and the visit should last between 20 and 60 minutes. The study visit should not just be a presentation of the company, it should give you a picture of how it is to be employed as a computer scientist at the company.

If it is not possible to find a study visit you will have to do an extra assignment described in the instructions to the seminar in period 2.

I have signed up on the paper sheets for the study visit but I neither received any emails nor an entry in rapp "__Study visit group 15/16 =" so far. Is that something to worry about?

Assistant commented 16 November 2015

Arne, detailed information has gone out for the first visit on Nov 5 and the upcoming visit this Thursday, Nov 19. Info on the visits Nov 26 will come later this week, and next week for the visits on Dec 3. For which visit had you signed?

commented 16 November 2015

Thanks Björn. I'm signed up for the 26 of November so I guess everything is fine.

I'm signed up for Netlight on the 26th, but won't be able to attend. Is it possible for me to switch to Netlight on the 3rd of december instead?

commented 24 November 2015

How long is a visit?

Assistant commented 24 November 2015

Most of them are around an hour, but some can be a little longer.

commented 25 November 2015

It says on this page that we should prepare two questions to the company before the visit. What are we supposed to do with the questions? Do we need to hand them in before the visit or can we just ask them during the visit and that's it?

Teacher commented 25 November 2015

Arne, you should be prepared to ask the questions. If you don't prepare questions in advance, it may be hard for you to come up with good questions during the study visit.
