Schedule and registration Spring 2024
The Doctoral Supervision course is tailored for supervisors at KTH. The overall aim is that participants should be able to reflect on and develop in their role as a doctoral supervisor. The course is mainly designed for those who have supervised at least one doctoral student for a year, but participants will benefit from the course even with less or more experience of supervision.
During the course we will discuss the framework regarding doctoral education in Sweden and KTH’s rules and regulations as well as local traditions. We will reflect upon doctoral students’ learning and development, the role as supervisor, the relationship to the doctoral student, as well as issues of value, such as ethics, equality and diversity. We will also discuss strategies to plan, follow up and give feedback on the research process and the doctoral student’s development. There are readings and/or written assignments to all course meetings - also for the first one - to be submitted in Canvas.
There are no requirements of previous pedagogical courses for this course. This course, or equivalent from another university, is a requirement for the Docent title at KTH. The course gives 3 credits. This is possible to combine with other pedagogical courses to complete the 15 credits in pedagogical training required for a teacher position at KTH
Please expect the course to have about 80 hours workload in total (scheduled hours + your own work). If you cannot attend all scheduled meetings you will be invited to attend the missing ones during the next semester.
