Two SweWIN Researchers Win Best Student Journal Paper Awards
In October 2025, two PhD students affiliated with SweWIN, Zinat Behdad and Núria Flores-Espinosa, won best student journal paper awards in two different conferences: IEEE Sweden Joint VT-COM-IT Workshop, and ISAP 2025.
IEEE Sweden Joint VT-COM-IT Workshop
On 23 and 24 October 2025, Zinat Behdad, a PhD student affiliated with area 3 of SweWIN (Resource management and orchestration), participated in the IEEE Sweden Joint VT-COM-IT Workshop , held at Linköping University.
In that workshop, Zinat presented the paper “Multi-Static Target Detection and Power Allocation for Integrated Sensing and Communication in Cell-Free Massive MIMO”, co-authored with Özlem Tuğfe Demir, Ki Won Sung, Emil Björnson, and Cicek Cavdar. It presents a new framework for Integrated Sensing and Communication (ISAC) that enables robust target detection even in cluttered environments and has already been cited over 110 times.
The paper earned the 2025 Best Student Journal Paper Award from the IEEE Sweden VT/COM/IT chapter. It was published IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications (TWC), where it is currently the most frequently downloaded paper.

ISAP 2025
Between October 27 and 31, Núria Flores-Espinosa PhD student affiliated with area 1 of SweWIN (Radio electronics and antennas), participated in the International Symposium on Antennas and Propagation (ISAP 2025), held in Fukuoka, Japan.
During the conference, Núria presented the paper “Ray-Tracing Physical-Optics Model for Dielectric Lens Antennas”, co-authored with Pilar Castillo-Tapia, Francisco Mesa, and Oscar Quevedo-Teruel. It presents an efficient ray-tracing model for lens antennas, successfully reducing simulation time from minutes to seconds.
The paper, which was partially funded by SweWIN, earned the student presentation award .
