KTH's competence centres perform research in newer subject areas and in close collaboration with the private or public sector.
A centre can be connected to one particular department, but it performs individual research. Most centres have their own board, with representatives from trade, business and society, while others are autonomous units directly subordinate to KTH's President. The majority of our centres maintain close connections with industry, and some are acting as liaison offices between KTH and other universities.
KTH's competence centres are divide into six research areas: digitalisation, energy, industrial transformation, Life Science, materials and transport.
