The Visualization Studio VIC

The Visualization Studio is a long-standing infrastructure at KTH and part of the national infrastructure for visualization. Our doors are open to all scientists in Sweden who seek support in analyzing and visualizing their data as well as communicating their research. Every year, over a hundred students learn in the studio how to work with the latest technology in graphics, visualization, virtual and augmented reality, and 3D printing. This talk will cover the highlights of the recent years.

Sensoring safety perceptions in and around Kista: A temporal perspective of place users

In this presentation, I will be talking about this Digital Futures/ Senseable Stockholm lab research project that aims at obtaining a better understanding of how people assess safety in a particular area of Stockholm - Kista area, more specifically, how people’s safety perceptions relate to the quality of the physical and the social environment of the area using multiple types of sensors.

Neko: A Modern, Portable and Scalable Framework for High-Fidelity Computational Fluid Dynamics

Recent trends and advancements in including more diverse and heterogeneous hardware in High-Performance Computing are challenging scientific software developers in their pursuit of good performance and efficient numerical methods. As a result, the well-known maxim ”software outlives hardware” may no longer necessarily hold true, and researchers are today forced to re-factor their codes to leverage these powerful new heterogeneous systems. We present Neko – a portable framework for high-fidelity spectral element flow simulations.

Plasma-PEPSC: Unlocking Extreme Supercomputing for Fusion, Accelerator, and Space Science and Industry

This talk will describe the EuroHPC Center of Excellence called Plasma-PEPSC, which aims to optimize the performance and efficiency of four plasma simulation codes for the most powerful supercomputers in the world. This project will enable simulations that were previously impossible and will tackle challenges in fusion energy, accelerator, and space physics and industry. The talk will cover the objectives of the project and the project’s potential impact on various fields.

Cyrille Artho

CASTOR Software Research Centre

A presentation about the CASTOR Software Center, of which he is director since 2023. The centre collaborates with KTH, Ericsson, and Saab and covers four research areas: Secure and robust end-to-end systems, software system design, data-driven development, and resilient programmable networks. Cyrille will give a brief overview of each research area and conclude with an outlook to the CASTOR Software Days. That upcoming event will feature world-leading speakers on "Applications of AI" and future challenges, taking place in Kista on 22 and 23 August.

Terahertz microsystems research at the Electrum Laboratory

This talk gives an overview of microsystem research at EECS/IS/MST on devices operating at THz frequencies, utilized in applications such as car radar sensors, telecommunication, and space-borne environmental sensing. This research is enabled by the unique Electrum Laboratory cleanroom, which is based on industrial-grade microfabrication equipment with nowadays by far superior performance as compared to research equipment.

Optimal coordination of smart converters for sustainable power systems

To achieve the national target for 100% renewables by 2040, renewables are increasingly integrated into electric power systems. Unfortunately, the intermittent renewables increase the risk of grid instability with the voltage fluctuation, frequency deviation and congestion issues, which limit the further integration of renewables. This talk will introduce our green energy research at Digital Futures, about how we use AI and optimization to efficiently coordinate renewable energy interface converters to provide various functions for grid support.
