As the utilization of the electric grid increases, the amount of resources spent on managing capacity and congestion management increases, with e.g. German TSOs spending over €2.5 billion on countertrading and redispatch in 2023. This presentation summarises research pertaining to utilizing non-costly remedial actions as an alternative to redispatch using deep reinforcement learning (DRL), and how DRL methods can be combined with traditional optimization methods to achieve cost effective, robust congestion management.
