Abstract
Let's talk about welfare services! PhD candidates Matilde Kautsky and Anna Livia Vørsel are both researching and writing about the history of welfare services in Stockholm from the 1950s till today. In this seminar, Matilde and Anna will bring an article and a chapter concerning the changes and decline in welfare services, both are works in progress. Matilde's article 'Standardising schoolyard affordances: architectural guidelines, spatial ideals and spaces for children's play in Stockholm since the 1950s´ looks at changing ideals in guidelines and planning through three schoolyards in Rågsved (1960), Skarpnäck (1983) and Liljeholmskajen (2019). Anna's chapter 'Materialised Governance' looks at the history and role of the district administration office (Stadsdelsförvaltning) in Rinkeby from its establishment in 1975 till it was relocated in 2008, and the building housing it was demolished.

The buildings are at the centre of attention of this seminar and the discussion will circle around the importance and relevance of these (welfare service) spaces, and how we research them by looking at regulations, planning guidelines, economy, use, management, design and changes to the buildings (and more)!
