Swedish foundations and research councils contributing to KTH's research

A large share of research at KTH is funded through competitively awarded grants from Swedish government research councils and agencies as well as private foundations.

The Wallenberg Foundations

The Wallenberg Foundations are one of KTH's largest external funders. The largest share of the funding comes from the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation (KAW), Sweden's largest private research funder.

The Erling-Persson Foundation

The Erling-Persson Foundation has, through a long-term commitment, helped enable outstanding research at KTH. The foundation's financial base rests on donations from the Persson family.

The Swedish Energy Agency

The Swedish Energy Agency funds research and innovation in the energy sector. KTH participates in competence centres where research and industry collaborate on the energy transition.

Formas

Formas is the research council for sustainable development, funding research in environment, agricultural sciences and spatial planning. At KTH, Formas supports research in areas including sustainable construction, urban planning and climate technology.

The Swedish Foundation for Strategic Environmental Research (Mistra)

Mistra funds research that contributes to solutions for environmental and sustainability challenges. Its programmes bring together researchers from academia, industry and the public sector.

SSF funds research in natural sciences, engineering and medicine. The foundation is independent and prioritises research with long-term significance for Sweden.

The Swedish Research Council is Sweden's largest government research funder, supporting research of the highest quality across all scientific disciplines.

Vinnova

Vinnova is Sweden's innovation agency, funding research and innovation that strengthens Sweden's competitiveness. KTH participates in ten of Vinnova's strategic innovation programmes.
