Published Apr 18, 2024

Bo Wahlberg, Professor in Automatic Control, KTH director and member of the program management of the Wallenberg AI, Autonomous Systems and Software Program (WASP), has been honored with the 2024 Janne Carlssons stipendium for Academic Leadership. This prestigious award recognizes his exemplary contributions to leadership development within the Swedish academic sphere.

In accepting the award, Wahlberg expressed gratitude for the mentorship and support he received from Janne Carlsson, former president of KTH, and Ingmar Grenthe, former vice president of KTH:

"Janne Carlsson was the rector of KTH Royal Institute of Technology when I was recruited as Professor Chair in Autonomic Control in December 1991. KTH was then a much smaller institution and Janne personally knew the professors. He was a most supportive and friendly leader, with our utmost respect, and at the same time an excellent scholar", Bo Wahlberg said.

"I would also like to extend my gratitude to the late Ingmar Grenthe, Janne's vice president, who became my academic mentor and friend. Additionally, my thanks go to Inger Larsson, then our head of the EIT administration, and Bjorn Ottersten, a dear friend, colleague, and co-founder of the Department of Signals, Sensors and Systems (S3) in 1992".

He also acknowledged the collaborative efforts of colleagues, postdocs, and PhD students at KTH's Division of Decision and Control Systems, highlighting their dedication and hard work in positioning their research group among the world's leading in automation and control.

The scholarship is awarded to stimulate active people in the Swedish academic world to develop leadership. Another purpose is to honor Janne Carlsson for his work in developing and internationalizing Swedish academic life.
