Mechanical Engineering at PUA

The vision of the Mechanical Power Engineering programme is to qualify the graduates to be pioneers in the field of Mechanical Power Engineering and its applications.

The programme aims to implant self learning methods to make the graduates familiar with the latest technologies. In addition, it provides scientific advice to all institutions working in the field of Mechanical Engineering. The mission of Mechanical Power Engineering program is to expand the horizon of knowledge among students through continuous research and development and technology transfer to serve the needs of the community through the cooperation with the industrial sector and the government. The program seeks to create a climate develops the ability to conduct advanced scientific research and establishes the concept of ethics and sense of belonging to society.

Career prospects

Mechanical Power engineering specialization

Mechanical Power Engineering gains importance progressively needs in labor market due to the increased level of technology. It is one of the largest, broadest, and oldest engineering disciplines. Mechanical engineers use the principles of energy, materials, and mechanics to design and manufacture machines and devices of all types.

Mechanics, energy and heat, mathematics, engineering sciences, design and manufacturing form the foundation of mechanical engineering. Mechanics includes fluids, thermodynamics, automobiles, thermal & hydraulic power plants, air-conditioning, ventilation, refrigeration, combustion and design of different mechanical parts.

Many engineers work in systems design. Design engineers are mainly concerned with new product development but also upgrade existing designs to achieve desired performance goals.

Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering specialization

Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering gains importance progressively needs in labor market due to the increased level of manufacturing technology. Industrial engineers should deal will all stages of any manufacturing process; including, material selection, design of product, design of machine itself, inspection process, plant layout, project management, quality control of all systems, safety, and cost analysis.

Manufacturing engineers are responsible for all aspects of production from development or selection of manufacturing methods to overseeing day-to-day operations on the factory floor. Engineers must be able to design, install and operate complex manufacturing systems made up of people, materials, robotics and other automated equipment. Along with this, they develop and monitor preventive maintenance programs. They may work on teams with design and/or test engineers, and often develop the product and the production process concurrently.

Testing of products in order to verify or improve their quality is an integral part of both design and manufacturing. Test engineers select or develop the testing apparatus and procedures to be used. If problems arise during testing, or if the product does not perform according to specifications, test engineers may recommend changes in overall design, in particular components or materials, or in certain manufacturing procedures.

Programme outline

The main purpose of the Mechanical power engineering department is to provide the labor market in Egypt and the Arab world with qualified mechanical engineers. The engineers supplied are highly qualified with the knowledge and skills specified internationally in the field.

The Mechanical Engineering Department includes the following two specializations:

  • Mechanical Power Engineering programme
  • Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering programme

A student in the Mechanical Power Engineering programme or the Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering programme must successfully pass courses totaling a minimum of 177 credit hours, respectively, through at least five academic years of study (or 10 academic semesters).
