China: Hong Kong University of Science and Technology

Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) is a public research university located in Clear Water Bay peninsula, Hong Kong. HKUST ranks among top 50 universities in the world. More than 11,000 students study in the university, of which around 4,000 students are international. HKUST is among KTH´s six strategic partner universities in the world, and have collaborations at various levels with KTH.

Note: You may do your exchange at either the School of Engineering or the School of Science at HKUST. Which school you should choose depends on your KTH programme. Please contact your international coordinator for guidance.

The number of courses at master's level for exchange students is limited. Even if you study at master's level at KTH, you may need to choose courses at bachelor's level at HKUST. An application and visa fee is required at all universities in Hong Kong. Exchange students must purchase HKUST's travel insurance; more info under terms and conditions .

Exchange opportunities

Number of spots:

  • School of Engineering: 25 semester spots, mainly for students at ABE, EECS, ITM and some programmes at CBH.
  • School of Science: 10 semester spots, mainly for students at SCI and some programmes at CBH.

Exchange availability:

  • School of engineering: High competition for exchange places. Students often need a GPA of 4.3 or higher to have a chance of getting a semester place.
  • Medium-high competition for exchange places. Students often need a GPA of 4.0 or higher to have a chance of getting a semester place.
