Tips on good universities you should not miss

KTH has exchange agreements with over 200 universities worldwide. Several of them have exchange places left over for KTH students every year. On this page, we recommend top universities that you should not miss.

As a KTH student, you can choose to go on exchange studies among 40 countries and roughly 200 partner universities worldwide. Universities in countries such as Australia, Japan, Switzerland and the USA are among the most popular. At the same time, many good universities often have places left over for KTH students.

Argentina: Instituto Technologico de Buenos Aires

The university is small but has a good reputation, which gives a unique and genuine character of innovation community. Located in Buenos Aires, one of the world's most beautiful cities.

Argentina: Pontificia Universidad Católica Argentina

Argentina's leading technical university. Located in Buenos Aires, one of the world's most beautiful cities.

Belgium: Katholieke Universiteit Leuven

Historical and ranked among the top 50 universities in the world. If you are an architecture student, you can study either in Brussels or in Ghent.

Belgium: Université catholique de Louvain

Highly ranked university, one of Europe's oldest, founded as early as 1425. Medieval university towns and American campuses have inspired the university. Excellent dual master choice for students in Applied and Computational Mathematics.

Botswana: Botho University

Offers a conducive environment for KTH students to work alongside local talents, blending expertise from different cultures to engineer impactful solutions. Located in the capital Gaborone, close to nature and hiking areas. 

Brazil: (PUC-Rio) Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro

Brazil's top-ranked private university. Centrally located in Rio de Janeiro, with course offerings in English. Very popular with exchange students!

Brazil: Universidade de Sao Paulo

Latin America's absolute best-ranked university. With almost 100,000 students, also one of the region's largest.

Chile: Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María

Chile's KTH. It is beautifully located on the coast in the resort of Valparaiso in the campus area and nicknamed "Hogwarts" for its similarities.

Chile: Universidad de Chile

Top university with very satisfied exchange students, located in Santiago.

China: City University of Hong Kong

The courses are in English and match well with KTH. The university is centrally located in Hong Kong.

China: Fudan University, Shanghai

Located in Shanghai. One of the best Chinese universities. Old and comprehensive, good in management, business and computer science related subjects.

China: Hong Kong University of Science and Technology

A close partner to KTH regarding exchange. Easy to find matching courses in English. Relaxed staff and great location in the city.

China: Peking University

One of China's absolute best universities, excelling in mathematics and physics.

China: Shanghai Jiao Tong University

One of KTH's strategic partners, with courses that match well with KTH's. Here you have a good chance to do degree projects at both bachelor's and master's level.

China: Shanghai Jiao Tong University Joint Institute (with UM)

A Chinese-American partnership with the University of Michigan. All courses are given in English.

China: Southeast University, Nanjing

Highly ranked university near Shanghai which is well known in architecture and engineering subjects. Specialized in topics linked to sustainability.

China: Southern University of Science and Technology

New partner for KTH in Shenzhen, close to Hong Kong. Large number of courses in English, well known in Technology and Science subjects. Also opportunity for thesis project work.

China: The Chinese University of Hong Kong

All courses in English. Large numbers of business and management courses. Also good in technology and science. Very helpful coordinators

China: Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen (CUHK-SZ)

All courses are given in English, and the university follow CUHK's system. Located in mainland China, so cost of living is much lower than in Hong Kong.

China: The Hong Kong Polytechnic University

All courses are given in English and match well with KTH's. Excellent location in the city.

China: Tongji University

Top ranked university in architecture, located in Shanghai. Tongji University is one of China's oldest and most prestigious universities.

China: Tsinghua University

One of the top two universities in China and ranked among the top 50 in the world. Good in all technical and science subjects.

China: Zhejiang University

Ranked as the country's third best university. Excellently located in Hangzhou, one of China's most beautiful cities, close to Shanghai.

Czech Republic: Czech Technical University in Prague

One of the largest and oldest technical universities in Europe. It was founded in 1707 and has eight faculties and about 21,000 students. The university is located in the middle of Prague and is a popular university among exchange students.
Denmark: Aarhus University A fifth of all residents are students. Fits very well if you study Civil and Architectural Engineering.

France: CentraleSupélec

One of France's absolute top universities and is a so-called "grande école" with elite status in its field.

France: Grenoble INP

World-class education in a small town in the heart of the Alps. The possibilities for hiking, skiing, climbing and other activities in and around Grenoble are almost endless.

France: École National Supérieure d'Architecture de Paris-Belleville

Ensa-PB ranks as one of France's best architecture schools and is located in central Paris, in the lively Belleville district.

Germany: Karlsruher Institut für Technologie

KIT is one of Europe's leading and most prestigious universities in technology and natural sciences, and ranks among the top 100 in the world. An international environment with courses that match perfectly with many of KTH's programs.

Germany: Technische Universität Dresden

One of Europe's most beautiful cities with one of Germany's largest technical universities. Can only be applied for by students within programs at the ABE and EECS school.

India: BITS Pilani, Goa

A well reputed private university in India. Their campus has state-of-the-art infrastructure housing a number of spacious laboratories, modern classrooms, a well equipped library, a magnificent auditorium and world class sports facilities.

India: IIT Bombay

One of India's top ranked universities, located in Mumbai. Research and academic programmes at IIT Bombay are driven by an outstanding faculty, many of whom are reputed for their research contributions internationally.

India: IIT Madras

A strategic partner to KTH, located in Chennai in South India, and ranked the top engineering university in India. Take this opportunity to study with the best minds in India in a lush green campus in the heart of the city.

Japan: Nagoya University

One of Japan's seven national universities, often ranked among the top 100 in the world. More than 16,000 students study here, of which more than 1,600 are international.

Japan: Osaka University

Osaka University is ranked third among Japanese universities and among the top 100 in the world. More than 25,000 students study here, around 2,500 of them are international. The SCI school has its own places in physics.

Japan: Tohoku University

Located in Sendai, this national university has strong collaborations with KTH, and here there are usually places left to apply for.

Kenya: Strathmore University

Here, you can collaborate with practitioners, policymakers, and civil society from diverse backgrounds, gaining invaluable insights and skills to drive sustainable energy initiatives in Africa and elsewhere.

Mexico: Instituto Politecnico Nacional

Over 200,000 students study here! Forms the heart of Mexico's engineering landscape, with several campuses around Mexico.

Mexico: Tecnológico de Monterrey

The most popular partner university in Latin America among KTH's students. Large range of courses in English and several campuses all over Mexico.

Portugal: Instituto Superior Técnico

The largest and most prestigious university for technology, science and architecture in Portugal. The university invests heavily in research, development and innovation and offers its students an exciting and global environment. The campus is centrally located in Lisbon, with roughly 11,000 students.

Singapore: Singapore Management University

The only university located in the middle of the city. Internationally recognised for its world-class research and excellent teaching.

Singapore: Singapore University of Technology and Design

A new university with excellent facilities and a unique interdisciplinary approach. The university is developed together with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, MIT.

Spain: Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya

UPC is the largest technical university in Catalonia. Campuses are located in several locations in Barcelona. If you study the master's programme in Naval Architecture, the campus is centrally located within walking distance to the beautiful beach.

South Korea: Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology

Innovative, one of the leading universities in South Korea. Ranked number 13 in the whole of Asia in computer science and information technology.

Tanzania: University of Dar es Salaam

The university offers various engineering programmes through which you can contribute to addressing societal challenges in Tanzania and beyond. Take the opportunity to make an impact while gaining valuable cross-cultural experiences.

Taiwan: National Sun Yat-sen University

NSYSU has courses in most areas. The campus is like a small town with everything from restaurants to accommodation and pharmacies. It is fantastically located right by the sea and between lessons you can take a dip in the sea.

Taiwan: National Taiwan University

Highly ranked university that is excellently located in Taipei.

Taiwan: National Tsing Hua University

NTHU is a leading research university in Taiwan located in Hsinchu, a beautiful city in northern Taiwan, also known as Taiwan's Silicon Valley.

Taiwan: National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University

Located in Hsinchu, next to National Tsinghua University. Has a large number of courses that match with KTH.

Thailand: Chulalongkorn University

Thailand's oldest and highest ranked university located right in the heart of Bangkok. Offers many programmes in English.

Thailand: Kasetsart University

Thailand's largest university but still with a personal touch. There are several well-developed International Undergraduate Programmes at the Faculty of Engineering.

Turkey: Koç University

One of Turkey's top three universities with pioneering research in technology and natural sciences. Located just outside of Istanbul, it has excellent student facilities and laboratories. All courses are given in English.

United Kingdom: The Queen's University Belfast

Fascinating city with one of the oldest universities in the UK. From the campus it is a 15-minute walk to central Belfast.

United Kingdom: University College London, The Bartlett School of Planning

Ranked as the world's best university in the subject area of architecture and the built environment. The exchange agreement is in urban planning (Bartlett School of Planning). The campus is located in Bloomsbury, in the heart of London on UCL's main campus.

United Kingdom: University of Bristol

One of the most popular universities in the UK. Bristol is located on the coast and is a typical student city with a lot to offer. The University of Bristol has eleven Nobel laureates among its former students and staff. Very suitable for students in vehicle engineering, year 3.
