Westlake University is located in Hangzhou, which is about an hour's train ride from Shanghai. Founded in 2018, it is a research-focused institution, aiming to lead in frontier research and train future science and technology leaders. Westlake recruits globally, teaches in English, and emphasises research training from day one. Over 95 percent of faculty hold doctorates from top global universities.

Thesis project work is possible. Students with Chinese citizenship are not eligible for exchange studies at Westlake University.
