Local and global classification for some dynamical systems with multidimensional time

In this talk I will survey (smooth) local and global classification questions and results for abelian higher-rank actions. I will describe basic algebraic examples for which classification is possible, and discuss some of the methods which come into play. The stress will be on hyperbolic and partially hyperbolic examples, but I will also present some parabolic examples.
