Shareweather

"Shareweather" – the new concept ”web weather 2.0”. The Shareweather project at MID studies weather services and user participation, a ”web weather 2.0” concept aimed at improving the content of weather services by enabling users of weather services to contribute with own user-generated weather observations.

As a part of the project, weather alerts were delivered to over 450 users in the Stockholm county area during 2008-2010, including live broadcasting on Sveriges Radio Stockholm P4. Other demonstrations were performed in collaboration with a dental clinic and children of the primary school Sjöstadsskolan, who contributed with their own weather observations. The research project, conducted by Katarina Elevant at MID, studies user motivation, quality and filtering of user-generated weather observations, and design of systems for collection of weather and other environmental data from non-experts.

A platform developed within the project is available at www.shareweather.com  including mobile apps SkyWeather by shareweather.com for iPhone and Shareweather för Android. More information is available at www.shareweather.com  and www.shareweather.org
